One of COMPAC's most important accomplishments, Critical Incident-Critical Situation (CI-CS) Teams were developed to help understand and diffuse causes of tension between the police and racial, cultural or ethnic minority groups. A CI-CS Team is a joint community-police effort to respond immediately to a reported occurrence in the community that is or could be a critical incident.
A critical incident is an interaction between police and people from a particular racial, ethnic or cultural community that results in tension and conflict, involves the use of physical force and is likely to involve leaders and groups in the community. A critical situation is one that involves police and community leaders in an ongoing, escalating chain of events. Early intervention by trained teams is important to help diffuse these conflicts.
The specific purpose of CI-CS Teams is to immediately address incidents or situations by involving both community and police in joint prevention, intervention, and follow-up action.
How Can You Participate?
