The answer is C. In 2009, about 70% of reported missing children were runaways. Of these, 88% were located within 7 days. National Missing Children Services (NMCS) is the only national missing children clearing house for information and assistance to police, not-for-profit agencies and parents. Ottawa is regarded by many as one of the safest cities in the world, but that's no reason for parents to let their guard down. Common sense tells us that the streets of any city are not entirely safe - this is particularly true for children. The Ottawa Police Service will always be available to respond to crime, but we need your active participation to help prevent crime. The police can't do it alone - get informed, get involved and make crime prevention part of your everyday life. Together, we can continue to build a safer Ottawa for all.
The youth of our city are an important part of the community, and the Ottawa Police Service works hard to encourage positive and proactive interaction between police and youth. Whether through School Resource Officers, the Ottawa Police Venturers program, various community partnerships, education programs or the hundreds of neighbourhood events held every year, police routinely cooperate with youth to improve our community. The Ottawa Police Service also has a Manager of Strategic Youth Initiatives who can facilitate training sessions relating to youth issues and trends and also facilitate reviews of cases where specialized services may be required.

- The Youth Intervention & Diversion Section supports parents and youth in conflict with recommendations and referrals to community resources and coordinates pre-charge diversion under the Youth Criminal and Justice Act as well as the School Resource Officer Program.
