Suspect in Sonnet Crescent homicide investigation has been arrested

 (Ottawa)—The Ottawa Police Major Crime Section informs that Behnam YAALI was arrested without incident on Friday at approximately 7:00pm in Brampton by Peel Regional Police.   He is facing one count of Second degree murder. 

He appeared at Ottawa court on Saturday, April 16, 2016 via videoconference.

Warrant for suspect in Sonnet Crescent homicide investigation

(Ottawa)—The Major Crime Section is seeking public information to locate wanted suspect Behnam YAALI, 23 years old, of Ottawa in relation to the homicide of Christina Voelzing. 

He is described at a Middle Eastern male, 5’6” (168cm), 160lbs (73kg) medium build with brown hair and brown eyes (see picture). He may have longer hair.

Shooting on Sonnet Crescent, not random

(Ottawa)— The Ottawa Police Service Major Crime section continues to investigate the shooting of a woman on Sunday morning. Investigators have determined that while the isolated incident was not random, it may not have been targeted.

No one is in custody at this time. A vehicle was seized at the scene on Sunday and is part of the ongoing investigation.

Update: Shooting investigation on Sonnet Crescent

(Ottawa)— The Ottawa Police Service Major Crime section continues to investigate the shooting of a woman on Sunday morning. 

The shooting occurred at about 5:00am at a Sonnet Crescent address.  

The female victim, 24 years old, was seriously injured and she remains in critical condition in hospital. 

The name of the victim is not being released at this time. 

No one is in custody at this time.

Shooting in west end of Ottawa (Bells Corners) 

(Ottawa)—The Ottawa Police Service is presently investigating a shooting that occurred shortly after 5:00 am at an address in the vicinity of Moodie Drive and Richmond Road. One female in her 20’s sustained injuries and was transported to hospital. No further details will be released at this time.
