(Ottawa)— This morning, the Ottawa Police Service received a call for service regarding a suspicious package that was located in a donation box at a business at the 1300 block of Clyde Avenue.
Patrol officers attended shortly after 10:30am, found a hand grenade like device. The building was evacuated as a safety precaution.
The CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear & Explosives) Unit investigated and rendered the grenade safe.
The investigation continues with the West District Investigation Unit.
The public is reminded that items that need to be destroyed like ammunition, explosives and firearms should be done by calling police and making a report. Do not discard these items in public places. A police officer will go to your location/residence to pick up any such items for safe destruction. Make the right call.
