Retail safety advisory and Robbery suspect to be identified

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, March 24, 2016   12:30pm 

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit is investigating the recent robbery of two Orleans gas stations and is seeking the public's assistance in identifying the suspect responsible.

On March 23, 2016, at approximately 1:00am, a lone male suspect entered a gas station along the 1900 block of Trim Road. The suspect produced a syringe and threatened to stab the employee. A demand was made for cash and cigarettes. The suspect fled with an undisclosed quantity of cash and cigarettes. It is believed that the suspect had a vehicle parked nearby.  There were no injuries. 

On March 23, 2016, at approximately 11:10pm, it is believed the same suspect entered a gas station situated along the 1200 block of Trim Road. The suspect entered holding a syringe, jumped onto the counter, and threatened to stab the store employee. A demand was made for cash and cigarettes. The suspect fled with an undisclosed quantity of cash and cigarettes. There were no injuries. 

A short time before the first robbery, the same suspect may have entered a drug store situated along Portobello Boulevard. The suspect entered, but upon seeing a security guard, turned and exited the premises without incident. 

The suspect is described as being a Caucasian male, approximately 5’7” to 5’8” (170 cm - 173 cm), 20-30 years of age, medium build, 160-170 lbs (73-77 kgs), with brown hair and English speaking. During the incidents, the suspect claimed that he was dying. 

In the first robbery, the suspect wore a black leather jacket, and used a “hoodie” and scarf, or similar, to conceal his identity.  He wore a white hooded sweatshirt in the second robbery. (see pictures).
