Copies of Police Reports

To obtain a police report, you may: 

  • Attend any or our police stations with two pieces of ID (Driver license / Birth certificate) during business hours (8:00 AM - 4 PM, Monday to Friday). Ottawa Police does not accept requests for police reports by phone.

The cost of the report is $49.00 (cash, cheque, Visa, Interac, or money order only)

  • If payment is made by cheque, it is to be payable to the Treasurer City of Ottawa.
  • Request can also be made by mail accompanied by cheque or money order.  The client will be notified when and if the report can be released.

Who can obtain a copy of a police report?

  • Individual: a request for information from the individual involved.
    • Only information pertaining to the individual can be released.  All other information will be severed from the report prior to release.                    
  • Third Party: a request from an individual or outside agency for information contained in a police report relating to other person(s) mentioned in the report.
    • No information is released to a third party without signed consent from each person (s) mentioned in the report.
    • Reports will not be released if the investigation is open and ongoing or the matter is proceeding before the court.
    • Motor vehicle accident reports may take up to 10 days from the time of the incident to be available for release.
