Partner Assault

We're Asking Ottawa:

1.What is the White Ribbon Campaign?
The answer is:
The White Ribbon Campaign (WRC) is the largest effort in the world of men working to end violence against women (VAW). In over fifty-five countries, campaigns are led by both men and women, with a focus on educating men and boys.

2. Does the decision to lay charges in relation to domestic violence rest with the victim or with police?
The answer is:
  It’s not up to you to press charges. If there are reasonable grounds to believe an offence has been committed, the police are required by law to lay criminal charges. If the abuser is at the scene, the abuser will be arrested and charged. If not, police will try to locate and arrest them.

The Partner Assault Section serves the community by:

  • investigating partner assaults and domestic conflict;
  • investigating custody and access orders, as well as parental abductions; and
  • conducting criminal harassment investigations relating to partner abuse.

Are you experiencing abuse by your partner, but aren't sure how to protect yourself or how to leave?

Photo of Neighbours, Friends and Families The Neighbours, Friends and Families Campaign is working to change the way people think about and respond to women abuse.

"Everyone has a role to play in ending violence against women. The Neighbours, Friends and Families Campaign is an important initiative towards giving people the education necessary to recognize the warning signs and risk factors and step forward in promoting a safer community for all" said Chief Vern White.
