OPS Colour Party

"By the Right...Quick March!"

With one quick command, the Ottawa Police Service's (OPS) Colour Party marches out towards the crowd. The performance has begun, and there's no turning back! Every formation vital, each move scrutinized...and all eyes are on the OPS Colour Party.

From Parliament Hill to Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Ottawa Police Service's Colour Party participates in a wide variety of ceremonial presentations each and every year.

The Colour Party provides a formal Police presence to many of the events within our community throughout the year proving time and time again that "variety truly is the spice of life". Regardless of the setting, it is always a thrill to see the young children's faces light up as we march out towards the stage or down the parade route.

Over the course of a year, one can also expect to see the Ottawa Police Colour Party marching in delegates at conferences, new recruits at swearing-in ceremonies, wide ranging community events as well as funeral services for Fallen Officers across the country.

The Colour Party works in concert with the Ottawa Police Service's Pipes & Drums. It is definitely something to see when the Colour Party marches with the OPS Pipes & Drums to the wail of the bagpipe and the beat of the drum. The history, prestige, pomp and pageantry is not lost on many.

The pomp and pageantry is the culmination of a lot of hard work. Ottawa residents can take pride knowing the OPS Pipeband are known as one of the premier pipebands in the province. But that reputation did not come easily, nor is it taken for granted. Musical expertise, maturity and high expectations require commitment and practice. The regal sounds of our Pipes & Drums are complimented by the precision marching of the Colour Party.

Members selected to join the OPS Colour Party take on the privilege and responsibility of representing each and every member of the Police Service throughout the year. Shining boots, pressed uniforms, and an awareness of the drill & discipline required to maintain their composure in front of a crowd is of the utmost importance. Colour Party members are selected based upon interest, knowledge of drill, and willingness to contribute to the team. Each member holds a true appreciation of the importance of promoting and maintaining our positive image within the community.

We are members of the community in which we serve, and as a result, we recognize the importance of building positive experiences for children and adults alike. Ask any member of the Ottawa Police Colour Party, to an individual, they will tell you that it is always a pleasure to represent the many hard working men and women of our Police Service whether it be in our own community, across the country, or beyond.

It is not always as easy as it looks… but always a thrill!
