2nd Statement: Ottawa Police Chief Vern White regarding fatally stabbed officer

The Ottawa Police Service officer who succumbed to his injuries this morning is Constable Ireneusz ‘Eric’ Czapnik, 51 year old.

 

Eric joined the Ottawa Police Service on April 10, 2007.  He was assigned to patrol in East Division, where he enjoyed interacting with the public and serving the community.  Like his father, he was proud to be a police officer and enjoyed serving his community.

 

Funeral arrangements are being made with the family and an update will be provided as soon as possible.

 

Members of the community who wish to express their condolences to the family and friends of the fallen officer can do so by e-mailing at info@ottawapolice.ca.

 

Book of Condolences will also be available, starting tomorrow,  at Ottawa Police offices across the City, including: 4561 Bank Street, 211 Huntmar Drive, 3343 St. Joseph Boulevard and 245 Greenbank Road (between 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday). The Ottawa Police Headquarters, located at 474 Elgin Street, will have a Book available 24 hours/day.
