More information regarding the Police funeral for Constable Ireneusz ‘Eric’ Czapnik

(Ottawa)— The Ottawa Police Service and the Ottawa Police Association would like to provide the following information to Ottawa residents regarding the Police funeral for Constable Ireneusz ‘Eric’ Czapnik that will be held at the Ottawa Civic Centre (Urbandale Centre), Lansdowne Park, on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 1:30pm.
“We expect that there will be up to 4,000 sworn and civilian members coming from across Canada and the United States to attend the Police funeral,” noted Chief Vern White. “We are making every effort to ensure the community can participate, however space will be limited.”
“Members of the public are welcome to come to Lansdowne Park to view the funeral ceremony in the adjacent Aberdeen Pavilion,” added Steve Boucher, President of the Ottawa Police Association. “A giant screen will be set up to that end so the Ottawa community can share this solemn event with the police family.”
A funeral procession march will precede the funeral. It will begin at the Carleton University Fieldhouse (around 12 noon) and end at the Ottawa Civic Centre. Members of the public who wish to view the funeral procession march-past can watch from anywhere along the route which runs east along Sunnyside to Bank and then north to the Ottawa Civic Centre (see attached map).
Ottawa residents should note that there will be no public parking available at Lansdowne Park for the Police funeral. Residents wishing to pay their respects by standing along the procession route or attending the funeral are advised to take public transportation.

A private reception for the family and sworn and civilian members will take place in the Aberdeen Pavilion following the funeral.

Please note that the Coliseum Building will not be used for the funeral.
