Ottawa Police lay charges in two swarmings

(Ottawa)-The Ottawa Police Service has laid charges in connection to two swarmings.
On September 11, 2012, at approximately 11:30 pm, the male victim was using his laptop computer on the exterior steps of a building situated along the 500 block of Cumberland Avenue in the proximity of the Ottawa University Campus. The victim was approached by two suspects who asked to use the victim's phone. The males then restrained the victim and attempted to grab the laptop. The victim was assaulted and the suspects were able to flee with the laptop. The victim suffered no injuries.
At approximately 1:00 am, September 12t 2012, two females were walking in the area of the Sandy Hill Community Center when two male suspects, one armed with a black and silver handgun approached both victims and demanded they turn over what they were carrying. The suspects made off with a number of items. There were no injuries.
One of the suspects was located in the area by OC Transpo Security. Ottawa Police attended and arrested the suspect without incident.
Hanten HERSI is charged with 3 counts of robbery, 2 counts of uttering threats, 2 counts of intimidation by violence, using a firearm to commit offence, pointing a firearm, and possession of a weapon while committing an offence. HERSI appears in court today.
The second suspect remains at large and has yet to be identified. He is described as being a black male, approximately 5'-7" to 5'-10" (170 cm to 178 cm) tall, with dreadlocks.
