Ottawa Police investigating a series of recent bank robberies

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit is seeking the public's assistance in solving a series of recent bank robberies.

On January 2, 2014, at approximately 5:05 pm, a lone male entered a bank situated along the 1400 block of Prince of Wales Drive. The suspect, armed with a handgun, made a verbal demand for money. The suspect fled the premises with an undisclosed quantity of cash.

On January 3, 2014, at approximately 5:45 pm, a lone male entered a bank situated along the 1100 block of Bank Street. The suspect, armed with a handgun, made a verbal demand for money. The suspect fled the premises with an undisclosed quantity of cash. The suspect’s coat was located along Rideau River Drive a short time after the robbery.

On January 6, 2014 at approximately 2:30 pm, a lone male entered a bank situated along the 1500 block of Bank Street. The suspect, armed with a handgun, made a verbal demand for money. The suspect fled the premises with an undisclosed quantity of cash. The suspect was seen running into the parking lot at the Blue Heron Mall where he is believed to have had a vehicle waiting.

On January 9, 2014, at approximately 3:45 pm, a lone male entered a bank situated along the 700 block of Ridgewood Avenue. The suspect, armed with a handgun, made a verbal demand for money. The suspect fled the premises with an undisclosed quantity of cash. The suspect was last seen jumping over a fence adjacent to a housing complex near Ridgewood Avenue/Springland Drive. A dye-pack was seen to activate as the suspect jumped the fence. As a result, the suspect, and/or his clothing, may have been stained by red dye. Again, it is believed a vehicle was waiting nearby.

There were no physical injuries in any of the robberies.

The suspect is best described as being male, black but with a lighter complexion, possibly having freckles or similar under his eyes, 5"8"-5'10"(173 cm-178 cm), slim build, athletic, English speaking with no discernable accent. Age estimates vary. Various images are attached from each of the four robberies.
