Cybertip from Ottawa contributes to international child protection operation in the Philippines

Ottawa– An investigation by the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit has contributed to the protection of eight victims, including five children, following a coordinated international investigation into online child sexual exploitation in the Philippines.

The investigation began in July 2025 after the OPS received information from the National Child Exploitation Crime Centre (NCECC) regarding a Cybertip.ca report submitted by an Ottawa resident. OPS investigators obtained evidence that helped corroborate the online activity and supported an international referral through the RCMP’s Transnational Child Sex Offender Unit.

Working in partnership with the NCECC, the RCMP, and law enforcement partners in the Philippines, investigators were able to advance the case, leading to an enforcement operation by the Philippine National Bureau of Investigation – Human Trafficking Division.

As a result of that operation:

• One suspect was arrested for online child sexual exploitation offences.
• Eight victims were brought to safety, including five children.
• Digital evidence was seized, and child sexual abuse and exploitation material was identified.
• Victims were immediately placed under the care of child protection and social service agencies.

This investigation highlights the importance of reporting suspected online child sexual exploitation and the power of collaboration between local, national, and international law enforcement partners.

The Ottawa Police Service thanks its partners in Canada and the Philippines for their expertise, dedication, and coordinated efforts, which helped protect vulnerable children from further harm and bring this investigation forward.

The OPS encourages anyone who encounters suspected online child sexual exploitation to report it immediately. Reports can be made through Cybertip.ca or by contacting their local police service. Prompt reporting can play a critical role in protecting children and supporting investigations both in Canada and internationally.
