DART

DART (Direct Action Response Team) is a provincially funded unit affixed to the Guns & Gangs Section.  This team is comprised of 5 Constables and 1 Sergeant that monitor street gang activity providing a highly visible uniform police enforcement presence in the community.  Engaging in community mobilization efforts in order to develop gang education, prevention and suppression strategies.


Responsibilities of this team include:

  • Monitor Guns & Gangs activity including criminal possession and trafficking of firearms
  • Provide a highly visible and highly active police presence in the communities particularly affected by street gang violence and drug activity
  • Establish an evening supervision program, which will provide dedicated monitoring and enforcement of high-risk street gang persons within the community
  • Assist in the proactive suppression of street gang activity and street gang violence
  • Provide an effective and timely response to street gang related crimes and disturbances as they occur
  • Engage in community mobilization efforts in order to develop street gang education, prevention and suppression strategies
  • Develop proactive strategies to deal with street gang activities
  • Identify, develop and maintain a link with internal sections, external partners and relevant community stakeholders
