The Ottawa Police Service hosted 59th annual the International Police Hockey tournament on February 27 and 28, with 109 teams are registered in eight divisions.

“The players are all police members and there are some who have played high calibre hockey, which is quite exciting,” said organizer and OPS Constable, Vianney Calixte. “Our divisions include women’s teams, an over-45 division as well as a gentleman’s league, which is for casual players to have some fun.”

In addition to friendly competition amongst police services, this event generates revenue for hotels and restaurants in our city, enhances partnerships between agencies and raises funds for local charities.

“We selected the Orleans-Cumberland Community Resource Centre,” said co-organizer, OPS Cst. Rick Lemay. “We were very proud to hand over a cheque for $10,000, to help them provide valuable programming and services to the Orleans-Cumberland community and the surrounding area.”

The International Police Hockey tournament is held in cities across Ontario and was last hosted by Ottawa Police in 2014.
