Second degree murder charge in Homicide Investigation

(Ottawa) – A 19-year-old man has been charged with second degree murder in relation to a stabbing incident in the Overbrook area that resulted in the death of a 47-year-old man.

On Sunday morning at about 2:40 a.m., officers attended the Whitton Crescent and Whitton Place area in regards to a disturbance. 

Officers located 47-year-old Steven Butler suffering from life-threatening injuries. Butler was transported to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. 

One other man was also discovered suffering from serious wounds and was taken to hospital. 

Officers arrested several individuals in the vicinity. 

As a result of the investigation Major Crime investigators have charged Nick VANASSE, 19 years old of Ottawa, with 2nd degree murder. 

Braelen STEVENS, 19, Shawn LEBLANC, 19, and Nick VANASSE are all jointly charged with Aggravated Assault on a 22-year-old male victim.
