Woman to identify following Downtown hate motivated assault

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, June 10, 2021          2:30pm 

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Hate and Bias Crime Unit is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in relation to a hate motivated Assault that occurred May 26th, 2021. 

At approximately 11:15am, a couple were sitting on a bench in the 200 block of Sparks Street and speaking in Arabic when a woman walked up behind them and struck the woman on the side of the head with her purse.  The suspect then walked away yelling racial slurs at them in English. 

The suspect is described as a Caucasian woman, late 50’s, 5’4” (163cm), medium build with short black and grey curly hair. She was wearing black shoes, a dark coloured dress, a deep purple jacket and a black purse (see photo).
