Charges laid in shooting death of Sahur Yare

(Ottawa) — The Homicide Unit has charged a 16-year-old with first-degree murder in the February 21st shooting death of 20-year-old Sahur Yare.

He appeared in court today and was remanded into custody.

As per the YCJA, the youth will not be named.

Canada Wide arrest warrant issued for 16 year old – name and photo removed

(Ottawa)—Per the terms of the Order signed by Justice Dorval, the Ottawa Police is now removing the name of the wanted 16-year-old who is charged with First degree murder in the shooting death of Sahur Yare in February.  He remains at large.

Per the Order, all online/social media postings of the suspect’s photo have to be removed no later than Wednesday, March 30th 2022 at 4:30pm.

We ask all media and members of the public to remove all postings of the 16 year old’s name and photo accordingly.

Canada Wide arrest warrant issued for 16 year old (edited on March 30th) in relation to the murder of Sahur Yare – police releases suspect photo for 5 days

(Ottawa)—The Ottawa Police Homicide Unit has obtained a Canada Wide arrest warrant for (edited on March 30th), 16 years old, of Ottawa.  He is charged with First degree murder in the shooting death of Sahur Yare in February.

He is described as a male with light brown skin, 5’9” (175cm), 130lbs (59kg) thin build, with collar length dark curly hair. He wears glasses at times. (see photo – removed March 30th)

(edited) is currently at large from the William E. Hay Centre and his whereabouts are unknown.

Police believe (edited)  has access to firearms and should be considered armed and dangerous. Please call 9-1-1 if seen.

Today, Justice Dorval granted permission for the Ottawa Police to release a photo of Young Offender (edited) for the use of media and members of the community for a 5 day period.

As such, all online/social media postings of the suspect’s photo have to be removed no later than Wednesday, March 30th 2022 at 4:30pm.

Police are looking for a vehicle of interest in relation to the murder of Sahur Yare

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit is seeking the public’s help in identifying a vehicle of interest as part of its ongoing investigation into the murder of Sahur Yare on February 21st, 2022. 

The vehicle, a grey coloured four-door sedan, was captured on surveillance video in the area of St. Laurent Boulevard, Walkley Road and Conroy Road around 5:45 pm on the day of the homicide.  (see attached photo)

Police believe the victim was killed shortly thereafter in the area of Johnston Road and Pennard Way.

Investigators are asking anyone with surveillance video or dash cam footage from the area of Johnston Road between Conroy Road and Bank Street and Conroy Road between Walkley Road and Johnston Road on Monday February 21, between 5:30 and 6 pm to contact the Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 5493.

Looking for witnesses/information – Homicide

(Ottawa)- The Homicide Unit is investigating the shooting death of a 20-year-old woman last evening.

At 6:15 p.m. police were called to the Ottawa Hospital General Campus after an unidentified and unresponsive female was brought to hospital with injuries. 

The woman, identified as Sahur Yare, 20, succumbed to her injuries at about 7:45 p.m.

The vehicle that brought her to hospital left the scene but was located by officers nearby.
