Woman charged for hate-motivated Assault on Hinton Ave North

(Ottawa) — Ottawa Police Service Frontline Officers, assisted by the Hate and Bias Crime Unit, charged a woman following an Assault incident that occurred on October 6th, 2021. 

At approximately 4:15pm, a woman was walking on Hinton Ave. North near Armstrong Street when she was randomly assaulted by an unknown woman who forcefully removed her hijab.  She then fled on foot. 

Frontline patrol officers attended the scene but were not able to locate the suspect at the time. 

Investigators of the Hate and Bias Crime Unit were able to later identify the suspect. Today, they charged the 62 year old woman of Ottawa with: 

  • Hate-motivated Assault *
  • Hate-motivated Mischief *  

She was already detained on an outstanding matter. She is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.

The Ottawa Police has zero tolerance for hate-motivated incidents and will fully investigate any report that is filed.
