Make the right choice on Saint Patrick's Day

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, March 16, 2016   1:30pm

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service will be conducting multiple RIDE programs on March 17th Saint Patrick's Day and well into the evening. Drug Recognition-trained officers will also be participating.

“Last year we set up four RIDE check points and interviewed over 600 drivers. Unfortunately we arrested five impaired drivers and issued four "Warn Range" license suspensions,” said Sgt. John Kiss, responsible for the Ottawa Police Impaired Driving Countermeasures Program.

“We want people to celebrate and have a good time, but more importantly make the right choice when it comes to getting home safely afterwards,” added Sgt. Kiss.

Remember to plan ahead to avoid an unpleasant ending to the festivities. Designate a sober driver, take a taxi or public transportation, or stay overnight.

A poor decision could have tragic consequences for you and others. It can also mean, at the very least, a criminal record and financial hardship.

If you spot an impaired driver, please call 9-1-1.
