You CANNOT file an online report if...

  • A threat was made or violence was used during the incident.

  • Evidence was left on the scene such as, but not limited to blood, tools, clothes or any item related to the incident.

  • The incident being reported did not happen in Ottawa.

  • The stolen property is a passport(s) (Stolen Canadian passports must be reported stolen to Passport Canada. Stolen Foreign passports must be reported in person at a police station)

  • The property lost is a cell phone, licence plate, bank card or government issued identification, with or without a serial number.

Some incidents require an officer in person, while other reports can be taken over the phone.

Our Police Reporting Unit (PRU) is pleased to take your call between 10 a.m. and 8:45 p.m., seven days a week. When the PRU is closed between the hours of 9 p.m. and 10 a.m., an automated attendant will provide you with options on how to redirect your call.

Front Desk Services

Front Desk staff will triage everyone attending a police station. If you can file a report online, you'll be asked to do so. If you need to come in the building, they will let you in. Our Front Desk Services hours of operation have changed to 8:00a.m. to 6:00p.m., seven days a week.

Front Desk Services (located at Huntmar, Elgin, St-Joseph stations) will take information from the public for the following:

  • Reports on criminal acts including: mischief/damage to property, break and enter, and fraud;
  • Assist clients who are required to attend and sign in to meet conditions of release;
  • Take additional evidence for a crime that’s already been reported; and
  • Take collision reports.

Ottawa Victim Services (OVS) provides emotional support, practical assistance, referrals and advocacy to individuals who have been victimized as a result of a crime or tragic circumstance, without judgment in order to lessen the impact of victimization. Evidence Control Unit

The Evidence Control Unit at 2799 Swansea Crescent is CLOSED for all walk-in service. 

Appointments can be scheduled on an as-needed basis during modified business hours between 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday-Friday. 

We will continue to process requests on a case-by-case basis and prioritize those that are time sensitive.

Inquire about stolen or lost articles

Please call in advance to coordinate the release of property that has been found, abandoned or taken as evidence.

Towed Vehicles

If your vehicle has been towed by police, you must attend one of our Front Desks to pick up a slip that shows the vehicle can be released. The slip will tell you where to go to collect your vehicle.

The Evidence Control Unit does not hold towed vehicles. Towed vehicles will be located at a local tow yard.
