Police Reports

The Ottawa Police Service is committed to respecting each individual's privacy.

In keeping with this commitment, we ask that all individuals or their representatives who are requesting a copy of a police report please do so either in writing to the FOI unit or by email. Please note that you will be required to provide two pieces of government photo identification. No information will be released over the telephone.

Copies of police reports are available ONLY to those parties involved in the incident or their representatives with consent.

Please note:

  • All third-party information will be deleted from the report.
  • Reports will not be released if the investigation is open and ongoing or the matter is proceeding before the court.

How to request a copy of a police report

Formal request

In the event you are requesting information about a third party, or any information that has been deleted from a police report you received, or any other police documents, you must make a formal request for this information as outlined in the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOI). Please ensure you have included the $5 processing fee for each request.

Request a copy of a police report

If you have not been contacted by the FOI section within 60 days to arrange for payment after you submit your request, please send an email to info@ottawapolice.ca  and we will verify the status of your request.

The Customer Service Desk at Queensview Drive is CLOSED for all walk-in service during Covid.

How long will it take to get a copy of a report once it is requested?

If the report is incomplete (still under investigation), it will be released to you when it is completed. There may be an additional wait time for archived reports.
