Charges laid in a hate-related assault and mischief
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, April 14, 2025 1:11 p.m.
(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Hate and Bias Crime Unit has charged a 31-year-old Ottawa woman following an April 11th assault on an OC Transpo bus.
At approximately 11:50 a.m., the woman assaulted another passenger by pulling off the passenger’s hijab.
The woman has been charged with:
- Assault
- Mischief interfering with lawful enjoyment – 2 counts
- Breach of Probation
The woman was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again today.
Anyone who witnessed the assault or has any information about this incident is asked to call the OPS Hate Crime Unit at 613-236-1222, extension 5015. Tips may also be sent by email to [email protected].
The OPS continues to encourage anyone who witnesses or experiences such incidents to report them to police. Reporting hate-motivated incidents is an important step in stopping cycles of hatred.
