Fatal Collision on Reg. Rd. 174

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Collision investigation Unit (CIU) is investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Saturday December 16, 2017 at 10:22 pm on Reg Rd 174 east of Trim Rd. between three vehicles.

Initial information obtained by investigators is at approximately 10:22 pm a Dodge pickup was traveling eastbound on Reg Rd 174 approx. 1 km east of Trim Rd, for reasons which are still under investigation the Dodge pickup truck found itself into the oncoming lane and struck head on a Volvo driven by a 71 year male, then a third vehicle a Mazda 5 struck the Dodge pickup truck.

The 71 year old male driver was transported to an area hospital, by Ottawa Paramedic Service, where he died on arrival. A 33 year woman, who was in the passenger seat of the Dodge pickup, was also seriously injured and transported by Ottawa Paramedics to an area hospital, where she was listed in serious condition. The 30 year old male driver of the Mazda 5 sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Ottawa Paramedics. The 33 year old driver of the Dodge pickup who sustained minor injuries was arrested at the scene.

Alain BOILY of Ottawa has been charged with

*       One count of Dangerous driving causing death

*       One count of Dangerous driving Cause bodily harm

*       One count of Impaired driving cause death

*       One count of Impaired driving cause bodily harm

  along with other related driving offences.

BOILY was to appear in court this morning for a bail hearing.

CIU investigators are also seeking assistance from the public for more information.
