National Road Safety Week May 13-19th: “Every Road, Every Day, Every One”
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, May 9, 2025 9:23 a.m.
(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service is proud to participate in National Road Safety Week, running from May 13 to May 19, as part of a national effort to make Canadian roads safer. This year’s theme, “Every Road, Every Day, Every One,” is a call to action for all road users: drivers, passengers, cyclists, and pedestrians, to help reduce injuries and save lives on our streets.
National Road Safety Week is led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) in partnership with law enforcement agencies and safety organizations across the country. The campaign focuses on changing poor driving behaviours and increasing awareness of the key factors behind serious and fatal collisions:
- Impaired driving (alcohol, drugs, fatigue)
- Aggressive driving (speeding, unsafe passing, red-light running)
- Distracted driving (including cellphone use)
- Proper seatbelt use
“Too often, we see lives changed in an instant because of one poor choice behind the wheel. We’re asking everyone to slow down, buckle up, drive sober, and put the phone away.” said Acting Staff Sgt. Lushman Ottawa Police Traffic Enforcement Section.
Throughout the week, Ottawa Police officers will be conducting targeted enforcement at the city’s busiest and most collision-prone intersections, focusing on impaired driving, speed enforcement, and distracted driving.
The Ottawa Police remind residents that dangerous driving and traffic complaints can be reported online at ottawapolice.ca/report or by calling 613-236-1222, extension 7300.
It takes all of us to prevent tragedy; let’s keep Ottawa’s roads safe together.
