Harassing Calls

If you receive harassing, obscene or threatening calls:

  1.  Don’t talk.
  2.  Hang up and note the time and date of the call.
  3.  Immediately pick up the receiver. After you hear the dial tone, press *57 (Call Trace will only trace the last number that calls your line, so be sure to use Call Trace immediately after you receive the harassing call).
  4. Wait for a recording to tell you whether the call was traced successfully and hang up.
  5. Contact our Police Reporting Unit at 613-236-1222, extension 7300 and file a police report advising that your call was successfully traced.

The police will contact Bell to help identify the caller, and will need the time and date of the call for any further investigation. Call Trace should only be used when you are ready to contact the police and willing to take legal action against the caller. Bell will release the traced number only on presentation of proper legal authorization and only to the police.

Note: There is a charge of $5.00 for each successful use of Call Trace up to a maximum of $10.00 per month per line.
