Man charged with Murder – Arson; Updated charges

(Ottawa) —Yesterday, the Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit has upgraded the charge against Saeed MOHAMED, 42-years-old, of Ottawa, to First degree murder.
As such, the updated criminal code charges are as follows:
- First Degree Murder
- Arson, disregard for human life
- Arson causing bodily harm x 2
- Arson causing property damage
Please note that the incident occurred in the Cyrville area, not the Overbrook area as first reported.

Man charged with Murder - Arson at an Overbrook apartment building
(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit has upgraded the charge against Saeed MOHAMED, 42-years-old, of Ottawa, to First degree murder.
The Homicide Unit took the lead of the file, following the tragic death of one of the three victims that were in critical condition following the arson of May 2nd in the 1200 block of Donald Street.
MOHAMED will appear in court tomorrow morning; and he remains in custody.
The victim who succumbed to injuries on Saturday, May 11th has been identified as Karima Moustapha, 3 years old.

Man charged with Arson at an Overbrook apartment building
(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Arson Unit has charged a man in relation to the fire that occurred on May 2nd at approximately 6:05 am in the 1200 block of Donald Street, leaving three people in critical condition.
Saeed MOHAMED, 42-years-old, of Ottawa, has been identified and charged with:
- Arson disregard for human life
- Attempted murder x3
- Arson causing bodily harm x3
- Possession of incendiary material
- Arson causing property damage
He will appear in court later today.
The police are still looking for anyone with doorbell, dash cam or video surveillance footage of the Donald Street and St. Laurent Boulevard area between the hours of 5:30 am and 6:30 am on Thursday, May 2nd. Anyone with information, and who has not already spoken to police, is asked to contact the Arson Unit at 613-236-1222, extension 2202.

Seeking video: Arson Unit investigating fire at an Overbrook apartment building
(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service, along with Ottawa Fire Services and Ottawa Paramedics responded to a residential fire in the 1200 block of Donald Street at approximately 6:25am on Thursday, May 2nd.
The Ottawa Police Arson Unit is investigating as it has been deemed suspicious in nature.
The police is looking for anyone with doorbell, dash cam or video surveillance footage of the Donald Street and St. Laurent Boulevard area between the hours of 5:30 am and 6:30 am on Thursday, May 2nd.
Anyone with information, and who has not already spoken to police, is asked to contact the Arson Unit at 613-236-1222, extension 2202.

Arson Unit investigating fire at an Overbrook apartment building
(Ottawa)— The Ottawa Police Service, along with Ottawa Fire Services and Ottawa Paramedics responded to a residential fire in the 1200 block of Donald Street at approximately 6:25 this morning.
Fire crews were able to get the fire under control just before 7:00 am.
The Ottawa Police Arson Unit will be investigating the fire, as it has been deemed to be suspicious in nature.
Three people, one adult and two children, were transported to hospital, where they remain in critical condition. Six people were treated on scene and five others were transported to hospital with minor injuries, including smoke inhalation.
Anyone displaced by the fire can attend the Overbrook Community Centre located at 33 Quill Avenue or call 311 for resources.
