A feathered rescue on the morning shift!
Earlier today, a concerned resident spotted an injured owl on the roadway near Robert Grant Avenue and Fernbank Road. The owl was moving but unable to get itself to safety, so they called police.
As luck would have it, Constable Young was on duty — and you’d never guess whooooo has been taking steps to become an apprentice falconer. Talk about the right officer at the right time.
“I find birds of prey fascinating and I’ve always loved them,” he said when asked how he got into the specialty.
Constable Young carefully secured the injured barred owl and transported it to a local bird sanctuary for treatment. Staff believe the owl was likely struck by a vehicle, but say its prognosis is good.
With the owl now in caring hands, Constable Young is back on patrol for the rest of his shift — a memorable start to the day and a story with a happy ending.
