An Extra-Special Call for Our Frontline Officers
While our frontline officers are out patrolling the community, they’re often flagged down for all kinds of reasons — from helping with directions to checking on someone’s well-being.
But this morning’s call was something truly special.
Jeremie and his wife, Kaitlyn, were on their way to the hospital as she was in active labour. When it became clear they wouldn’t make it in time, they pulled over near the Montreal Road exit of Highway 174. Spotting a police cruiser nearby, Jeremie quickly flagged it down.
Cst. Nicolas (left) said, "I was flagged down by Dad on the 174 when he told me that his wife felt the baby's head. I immediately escorted them off the highway and was told that the baby was out.”
Mom did all the work, welcoming her baby right there in their vehicle. Sgt. Charron arrived moments later and, alongside Cst. Nicolas, made sure both mom and baby were safe until Ottawa Paramedics arrived to take over.
“It was a very unique and surreal moment I will remember for the rest of my career," recalled Cst. Nicolas.
Moments like these don’t come around often in policing, which makes them all the more memorable.
Welcome to the world, Baby Jack! 💙
Kaitlyn — you did an incredible job! Jack’s big sister can’t wait to meet him and welcome him home.
