Auxiliary Sergeant Arthur Poon celebrates nine years of dedicated service

Back to Search
Auxiliary Sergeant Arthur Poon celebrates nine years of dedicated service with OPS.

My name is Arthur Poon, and I am an OPS Auxiliary Sergeant. I joined the Auxiliary Unit in 2016, marking nine fulfilling years of service.

Since immigrating to Canada and driven by a lifelong ambition to become a police officer, I have dedicated myself to volunteering with various organizations. This passion motivated me to apply for the Auxiliary Unit and fulfill my dream of participating in law enforcement.

Throughout my time with the Auxiliary, I’ve been involved in numerous community events, including Canada Day, CN Cycle, Police Week, Bluesfest, and the Army Run. I regularly participate in frontline patrols, building community safety and engagement.

In 2019, patrolling alongside another officer, I assisted in the arrest of a suspect — a pivotal experience that highlighted the importance of my role. Over nine years, I’ve gained extensive knowledge in law enforcement and learned invaluable skills in working with the community and the Ottawa Police Service.

The skills I’ve acquired are unique and can’t be found in traditional learning environments. I’ve built strong relationships with officers of different ranks, some of whom have become good friends.

Volunteering has been incredibly rewarding, providing the opportunity to give back to the community that has supported my journey. Since joining, I’ve contributed over 300 hours of volunteer service each year.

I encourage anyone considering policing to explore this opportunity with an open mind and commitment to serving their community.

Volunteering as an Auxiliary Police Officer offers a chance to impact public safety, develop valuable skills, and foster meaningful relationships. You’ll engage with diverse community members, gain insight into law enforcement, and participate in events.

If you’re passionate about making a difference and ready to dedicate your time and effort, I invite you to join our Auxiliary Unit. Your involvement can transform your life and the lives of those around you.
