Blyth Academy Students Visit Neighbourhood Operations Centre to Learn About Policing
Grade 7 students from Blyth Academy in the Glebe recently visited the Neighbourhood Operations Centre (NOC) as part of their career research project. The students had the opportunity to interview Constable James Kennedy from the Community Policing Central District, gaining valuable insights into the daily responsibilities and training of police officers.
During the visit, Constable Kennedy explained the training process, the wide range of duties officers perform, and the importance of engaging with the community. Students were especially curious about how officers handle different types of crimes, as well as the various roles and career progression within the Service.
The visit provided students with a deeper understanding of policing and its crucial role in maintaining community safety. It also emphasized the importance of fostering positive relationships between police and young people to help build stronger, safer neighbourhoods.
The students’ visit coincided with a public open house at the NOC, giving them a first-hand look at how officers connect with the broader community. Events like open houses and “Coffee with a Cop” sessions offer residents the opportunity to meet their Community Police Officers (CPOs), ask questions, and learn more about local policing initiatives.
Keep an eye out for upcoming opportunities to stop by the NOC and connect with your local CPOs and follow @opscentraldistrict on social media to stay informed.
