Capital Prosperity Foundation Joins Purse Project for its 10th Anniversary
This year marks a milestone for one of Ottawa’s most compassionate community initiatives. The Ottawa Police Service’s Purse Project — now celebrating its 10th anniversary — continues its mission to ensure that no woman in our city goes without essential hygiene products, especially during times of crisis.
Launched in 2015, the Purse Project began as a simple yet profoundly meaningful idea: collect gently used purses, fill them with personal care items, and distribute them discreetly to women experiencing homelessness or hardship. Over the years, the initiative has grown into a powerful community movement supported by generous partners across Ottawa.
In honour of its 10th year, the Capital Prosperity Foundation (CPF) has officially joined the Purse Project effort, adding momentum and meaningful support.
“CPF will be contributing $3000 worth of gift cards for this amazing initiative,” said Dan Fried, President of the Capital Prosperity Foundation. “We hope next year to be a major sponsor of this worthwhile cause.”
Beginning November 22, residents can participate by dropping off essential feminine hygiene products at participating Shoppers Drug Mart locations across the city. Donors may also bring gently used purses to any Ottawa Police Service station or to the Citron Hygiene Warehouse. Volunteers will then fill the purses with donated products, ensuring they are ready for distribution.
Just before Christmas, these thoughtfully prepared purses will be delivered to local women’s shelters — a gesture that provides not only much-needed supplies but also a message of dignity, care, and respect.
“Regardless of status or situation, every woman deserves period dignity,” one organizer shared. “We wanted to make sure women had access to these products in a way that also made them feel respected and cared for.”
As the Purse Project enters its next decade, partnerships like the one with the Capital Prosperity Foundation help ensure the initiative continues to grow, strengthen, and uplift women across Ottawa — one purse at a time.
