Celebrating Richard Smith: 28 Years of Dedication, Laughter and Service

Back to Search
Richard with the central community policing team.

Richard Smith has been a familiar and valued presence at the Ottawa Police Service.

Since joining OPS in the 90s, Richard has brought dedication, precision, and pride to his work, playing an essential role in maintaining document security and helping operations run smoothly every day.

But beyond the important work he did, it’s Richard’s humour, kindness, and sportsmanship that truly left a lasting mark on those around him. Whether sharing a laugh in the hallway or brightening a busy day with his positive attitude, Richard helped create the sense of camaraderie that makes OPS stronger.

Colleagues describe him as dependable, hardworking, and someone who could always be counted on. Richard got the job done and lifted the spirits of the people around him. His contributions, both professional and personal, have made a meaningful difference across the organization.

Now, after an incredible 28 years of service, Richard is heading into a well-earned retirement. As we celebrate his career and the many memories he created along the way, we thank him for his years of commitment, leadership, and laughter.

Thank you, Richard, for being the breath of fresh air so many of us needed through the busiest days. You will be greatly missed, and we wish you nothing but happiness in this next chapter.
