Commercial vehicle safety blitz results in 45 charges, 21 vehicles taken off the road

(Ottawa)—The Ottawa Police Service's (OPS) Road Safety Unit, in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), conducted a commercial vehicle safety blitz on Wednesday at Fred Barrett Arena on Leitrim Road.
The initiative focused on commercial vehicle safety and compliance, with support from OPS South District Traffic and Neighbourhood Resource Team officers.
In total, officers and inspectors conducted 55 commercial vehicle inspections. Of those vehicles, 21 were taken out of service, representing 38 per cent of vehicles inspected.
The blitz resulted in:
- 55 inspections conducted
- 21 vehicles taken off the road
- 45 charges laid
- 2 licence plates removed
- 1 improper annual commercial vehicle inspection sticker removed
Deficiencies identified during the inspections included issues related to brakes, breakaway devices, wheels and tires, directional and brake signals, suspension components, load securement, a disqualified driver and improper driver’s licence.
Charges included offences related to improper tires, no daily trip inspections, expired annual inspections, improper brakes, CVOR-related issues, overweight vehicles, major defects, permit issues, various TSSEA offences and inoperative directional signals.
Commercial vehicle safety remains an important part of keeping Ottawa’s roads safe for all road users.
