Community Girls Day Builds Confidence in Carlington
The Carlington community came together for the fourth annual Community Girls Day, an initiative designed to provide a safe, inclusive, and empowering space for young girls.
Hosted in partnership by the City of Ottawa and the Ottawa Police Service, the event welcomed school-aged participants from the neighbourhood. The program focused on creating an environment where girls could feel comfortable being themselves, build confidence, and connect with peers and positive role models.
The day featured a series of structured, instructor-led activities that encouraged both physical and creative engagement. A dance class gave the girls an opportunity to build confidence through movement, while a cooking session introduced practical skills and reinforced the importance of healthy eating.
Activities were designed to be inclusive and accessible, with an emphasis on encouragement and participation rather than competition.
The collaboration between the City and the Ottawa Police Service continues to play an important role in strengthening relationships with local youth and families, while supporting initiatives that promote well-being and community connection.
We would like to thank the Capital Prosperity Foundation for sponsoring the event this year, as well as the Ottawa Police Service, and Ottawa Police Association volunteers who attended and were so engaging with the children. The day was filled with fun, laughter, and friendship.
Over the past four years, Community Girls Day has become a valued opportunity for girls in Carlington to engage in structured programming that may not otherwise be accessible to them. This year’s event continued that momentum, reinforcing the importance of safe spaces where young girls can build confidence, develop skills, and feel a sense of belonging.
Thank you to Cst. Lally and Cst. Magill for their work in planning this event.
