Community Partnership Brings New Life to Ottawa Schoolyard
When the Capital Prosperity Foundation (CPF) and the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) come together, great things happen for local communities. Recently, they teamed up on a project that’s already bringing big smiles to young students at Abraar Elementary School in Ottawa.
The idea came from Chabine Tucker, Sergeant of Diversity and Race Relations, who saw an opportunity to give students better outdoor facilities. The school needed two new basketball courts and repairs on existing hoops to make the playground safer and more fun. CPF jumped in to help, funding the project and overseeing the work.
The team repaired the concrete court areas, installed brand-new posts and nets, and fixed the older hoops that had seen better days. The transformation was immediate: students now have a safe, fun space to play, learn teamwork, and stay active during recess and after school.
The collaboration between CPF and OPS is a reminder of what can happen when organizations come together to invest in the community. A simple act—fixing a playground—has already created countless moments of joy and connection for Ottawa’s youth.
