Man charged in relation to fatal collision investigation on Rideau Street

Officers at the scene of a fatal collision on Rideau Street

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, June 22, 2026 2:30 p.m.

(Ottawa)—The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Fatal Collision Investigation Unit has charged an Ottawa man in relation to a fatal collision that occurred in the 500 block of Rideau Street on February 25, 2026.

Abdelkader AMOROUAYECHE, 38, has been charged with:

  • Careless Driving Causing Death x1
  • Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm x2

Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of the person who died, as well as those affected by this collision.

Fatal collision investigation on Rideau Street

(Ottawa) –The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) remains at the scene of a fatal collision that occurred in the 500 block of Rideau Street this morning.

At 9 a.m., police, fire and paramedics responded to reports of multiple people with serious injuries, after a vehicle collided with a building on Rideau Street near Cobourg Street.

Sadly, a man in his 70s died as a result of his injuries.

Two men sustained critical injuries and were transported to hospital in critical condition.

A woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital in stable condition.

All of the injured people were pedestrians.

The driver of an SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Police would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dashcam footage of this incident, who has not already spoken with police.
