Suspect to identify in hate-motivated assault investigation

(Ottawa)— Investigators are looking to identify a suspect in a hate-motivated assault that occurred on Saturday, June 20, at approximately 3:53 p.m. on Carling Avenue, west of Bayshore Drive.

The image quality is limited, and investigators are asking anyone who was driving in the area around that time and may have dashcam footage to come forward, as it may have captured a clearer image.

Hate-motivated assault under investigation

(Ottawa)— Officers responded to a hate-motivated assault yesterday at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Woodridge Crescent.

Unprovoked, a male approached a woman and uttered a racial slur before forcibly removing her hijab and throwing an umbrella at her. The suspect then fled on foot. The suspect was unknown to the victim. The victim sustained no physical injuries.

The suspect remains outstanding.

The West Criminal Investigations Section and Hate Crime Unit are continuing the investigation.
