Hockey for a Cause: Justice on Ice Donates $9,480 to CHEO
The success of Justice on Ice came full circle this week as the funds raised were officially handed over to the CHEO Foundation.
Sgt. Sébastien Lemay, members of the University of Ottawa Civil Law student team, and a representative from CHEO came together to present a cheque for $9,480.31, the total raised through the inaugural charity hockey game between the Ottawa Police Service and the University of Ottawa Civil Law students.
The game brought together officers, students, families and supporters for a spirited night on the ice, with the University of Ottawa Civil Law team earning a 5–3 win over OPS. More importantly, the event united the community around a shared goal: supporting the children and families who rely on CHEO’s care.
“For our first year, this has exceeded our expectation and we are so happy with the results,” the organizers said. “We have more time to plan the next one and we look forward to seeing how we can grow this event for years to come.”
Justice on Ice shows what can happen when community partners come together around a good idea — turning a friendly rivalry on the ice into real support for families in our community.
