Investigators seeking witnesses in Finlayson Crescent hostage-taking investigation

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) is continuing the investigation into the hostage-taking incident on Finlayson Crescent.
Investigators are seeking to speak with anyone who observed suspicious activity in the area of Finlayson Crescent and Goward Drive between June 29 and July 2, 2026.

Hostage-taking concluded on Finlayson Crescent
(Ottawa) – A hostage-taking incident on Finlayson Crescent has been concluded with the safe release of a woman following a coordinated police response.
This morning, the Ottawa Police Service was contacted regarding concerns for the safety of a woman believed to be held hostage inside a residence on Finlayson Crescent.
Officers responded and established a secure perimeter around the residence. A significant police presence remained in the area throughout the incident to ensure public safety and support efforts to resolve the situation peacefully.
For more than 14 hours, officers and negotiators worked to peacefully resolve the situation.
At 9 p.m., Tactical Unit made entry into the residence and rescued the woman, who was physically unharmed, and is receiving appropriate supports.
The male suspect was subsequently taken into custody and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Ottawa Police Service would like to thank area residents for their patience and cooperation during the operation. Public safety remained the top priority throughout the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing, and charges are pending. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
In accordance with standard procedure when a police firearm is discharged, the Special Investigations Unit has been notified to ensure it can fulfill its mandate.
