FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sunday, May 31, 2026            10:47 a.m.

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service (OPS), in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), conducted a joint traffic enforcement initiative on the evening of May 29.

Officers from South District Traffic, West District Traffic, East District Traffic, West NRT, South NRT, and the OPP were deployed across the city to identify and deter illegal car gatherings. Police attended several locations where property owners had indicated gatherings were not permitted, in response to ongoing concerns related to mischief, property damage, criminal activity, and dangerous driving associated with some events. Officers also patrolled area roads and highways, targeting aggressive driving and other traffic infractions.

Over the course of the evening, officers issued 30 Provincial Offence Notices (PONs) and nine Part III Court Summonses. Two vehicles were impounded.

The 30 PONs include:

  • Speeding x7
  • Unsafe Lane Change x1
  • Drive Hand-Held Communication Device x2
  • Red Light - Fail To Stop x2
  • Amber Light - Fail To Stop x1
  • And a number of equipment violations and document infractions.

Part 3 Court Summons Charges:

  • A motorcyclist was caught doing 151 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 417 / Huntmar Drive. The motorcyclist was charged with stunt driving and speeding. Licence suspended for 30 days and motorcycle impounded for 14 days.
  • An automated licence plate reader (ALPR) alerted to a suspended driver with an expired licence plate and an uninsured vehicle on Catherine Street. The driver was charged with driving while suspended, operating a vehicle without insurance and not having a currently validated permit.
  • ALPR alerted to a driver with expired plates on Kent Street. Their vehicle was also uninsured. Driver charged with operating a vehicle without insurance and driving without a currently validated permit.
  • A driver was stopped after going 157 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 417 / Moodie Drive. They were charged with stunt driving and speeding. Their licence was suspended for 30 days, and their vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

The OPS and OPP will continue working together to enhance road safety through targeted enforcement and information sharing.

Residents can report traffic-related concerns online at ottawapolice.ca/report. Information submitted by the public helps the OPS identify problem areas and allocate enforcement resources where they are needed most.
