June 5th traffic enforcement results in 31 charges

(Ottawa)—The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) has laid 31 charges following city-wide traffic enforcement initiatives targeting vehicle and motorcycle gatherings on Friday, June 5.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., officers attended the 1500 block of Merivale Road, where approximately 40 motorcycles and 15 to 20 vehicles had gathered. Officers directed the group to disperse, and the crowd left the area with minimal issue.

The East Neighbourhood Resource Team (NRT) also monitored an unauthorized gathering involving approximately 40 vehicles in the 0–100 block of Trainyards Drive.

Between the two gatherings, officers issued 26 Provincial Offence Notices (PONs), including:

• Nine for speeding
• Three for failing to display a front licence plate
• Two for failing to stop at a red light

In addition, five Part III Court Summonses were issued, including:

• A 30-year-old driver charged with operating a vehicle without insurance, operating without a valid permit, and failing to display front licence plates. The driver was stopped in the Thorndale Drive and Walkley Road area.
• An 18-year-old driver stopped after travelling 126 km/h in a 70 km/h zone near Strandherd Drive and Beatrice Drive. The driver was charged with stunt driving and speeding. Their driver's licence was suspended for 30 days, and their vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
