OPS member charged in off-duty incident
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, June 19, 2026 4:05 p.m.
(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) has been notified that Staff Sergeant Walt Lushman has been charged by the Halton Regional Police Service following an off-duty incident in Oakville.
The incident occurred on Friday, June 12, at approximately 10:20 p.m., following an alleged dispute related to a collision between two vehicles.
Staff Sergeant Lushman has been charged with one count of assault. He was released on an undertaking with conditions.
The matter remains under criminal investigation by the Halton Regional Police Service.
The OPS Professional Standards Unit has begun an investigation into this matter under the Community Safety and Policing Act.
Staff Sergeant Lushman will have no public-facing duties while this matter is investigated.
