OPS Statement on Community Safety and Support Following Sydney Attack
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, December 18, 2025 12:45 p.m.
(Ottawa) – In the wake of the tragic attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney, we continue to recognize the pain and anxiety that tragic incidents like this cause the Jewish Community both globally and locally, especially during gatherings and holidays.
We stand with you.
Over the past several days, our Diversity and Resource Relations (DRR) and Community Safety Services teams have engaged with residents and community leaders and have attended community events to connect and listen. Frontline officers have also been proactive in attending various community locations for security, visibility and attendance aimed at promoting safety for Ottawa’s Jewish community.
We are working closely with the Jewish Federation of Ottawa and community partners, coordinating our efforts and ensuring we’re responsive to community needs throughout Hanukkah and beyond.
Hate has no place in our city. We remain committed to ensuring everyone can celebrate safely and without fear.
We’ll continue to adjust our presence as needed.
Our goal is simple: to listen, support, and help everyone in Ottawa feel secure.
