OPS Tactical Unit and Capital City Condors Team Up for an Unforgettable Hockey Game
On February 15, members of the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Tactical Unit hit the ice for a friendly game against the Capital City Condors, a hockey program for individuals living with cognitive and physical disabilities.
This annual event, organized by Constable Mark Cutts, has become more than just a game — it’s a tradition that fosters inclusion, friendship and community connection.
Before joining the police service, Cst. Cutts volunteered with the Condors, building relationships that eventually led to the creation of this event. Over the years, the game has had a ripple effect of positivity, helping players gain confidence, form friendships, and look forward to an event where they feel like stars. Parents have shared how much it means to their children, who eagerly anticipate the chance to play alongside officers.
This year, the Tactical Unit brought their armoured vehicle and hosted a small equipment demonstration, adding to the excitement. Officers even adjusted their shifts to take part, further strengthening their bond with the players.
In previous years, each player received a Tactical Unit patch, with some proudly adding it to their jerseys. The event continues to expand, opening doors for more inclusive sporting opportunities within the city.
The Condors' impact extends beyond Ottawa, inspiring similar programs across Ontario and providing opportunities for players to travel to cities like Nashville and Vancouver. Locally, this game has helped build lasting connections between the community and first responders.
With its continued success, this annual event is set to remain a highlight for both the Tactical Unit and the Condors. It’s a moment of teamwork and community spirit, proving that hockey is more than just a game.
