Ottawa Police Service to Host First-Ever Indigenous Recruitment Event
The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) is proud to announce its first-ever Indigenous recruitment event, taking place on November 4 and 5. This unique gathering is designed to inspire the next generation of officers and strengthen connections with Indigenous communities. It is tailored for Indigenous people, those working within Indigenous communities, or anyone interested in pursuing a policing career rooted in cultural understanding and community service.
Attendees will gain insight into the recruitment process, participate in meaningful conversations about integrity, respect, and cultural pride, and connect with others who share a passion for community-focused policing. The event will also feature live music, food, and networking opportunities, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.
Panelists include:
-
Indigenous Community Members – Sharing firsthand perspectives on community priorities and the importance of representation in policing.
-
Sgt. Chantal Larocque – Anishinabek Police Service – A leader in recruitment, media, and community engagement, focusing on mentorship and bridging Indigenous and non-Indigenous police services.
-
Supt. Jamie Dunlop – Ottawa Police Service – With decades of experience in policing and youth support, Supt. Dunlop emphasizes serving communities with integrity, compassion, and cultural awareness.
This first-of-its-kind event reflects OPS’s commitment to inclusivity, representation, and community engagement, creating opportunities for Indigenous voices to be heard and inspiring future leaders in policing.
