Ottawa Police Strategy Team Nominated for OACP Excellence Award

Back to Search
The OPS Strategy team

The creative minds behind one of the Ottawa Police Service’s most innovative public-facing initiatives are being recognized on a provincial stage.

The Ottawa Police Service Strategy team—the group responsible for developing and launching the Community Safety Data Portal—has been nominated for the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Excellence in Information Technology/Services Award.

Presented annually, the OACP Awards recognize outstanding contributions from police professionals across Ontario who are driving innovation, advancing public service, and creating meaningful change within their organizations and communities.

While only one recipient is selected each year, being nominated in this highly competitive category is an achievement in itself—one that reflects the impact of the Strategy team’s work and the respect they have earned among their peers across the province.

At the heart of this nomination is the Community Safety Data Portal—a groundbreaking initiative designed to make policing data more accessible, transparent, and meaningful to the public. Through interactive dashboards, accessible reporting, and data-driven insights, the portal helps residents better understand community safety trends while supporting informed conversations around policing, accountability, and service delivery.

Behind the technology is a team of forward-thinking professionals who saw an opportunity to do things differently—to transform complex information into something accessible, transparent, and useful for both the organization and the community it serves.

In a letter from the OACP, the team was commended for its dedication, innovation, and commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusivity through its work.

Recognition like this speaks to technical excellence and a broader vision where data becomes a bridge between police and community.

Congratulations to the Ottawa Police Service Strategy team on this well-deserved provincial recognition. Your work continues to shape the future of public safety in Ottawa.
