In total, 87 commercial motor vehicles were inspected by 16 inspectors qualified by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA).

Of the vehicles inspected, 20 were taken out of service for safety-related issues, and 68 charges were laid. One licence plate was also seized because the vehicle was deemed unfit.

Vehicles were taken out of service for issues including defective brakes, improper tires, insecure loads, damaged suspension components, steering defects, and defective or missing trailer safety devices.

Charges were laid for offences related to daily trip inspection reports, annual inspection stickers, insecure loads, overweight vehicles, vehicle maintenance, Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR), improper tires, defective turn signals, major defects, dangerous goods, permits and documentation, and missing licence plates.

Safe commercial vehicles, properly licensed drivers and secure loads are essential to road safety. The OPS, MTO and OPP will continue to work together on targeted enforcement initiatives to help keep Ottawa’s roads safe.
