Transparency and Accountability

The Ottawa Police Service is committed to serving the community with integrity, fairness, and respect. Being open about how we police—how decisions are made, how concerns are addressed, and how we hold ourselves accountable—is essential to building public trust.

This page provides access to information about our work, our policies, and our commitment to ethical, professional, and equitable policing in Ottawa.

The Ottawa Police Service is committed to openness, transparency, accessibility, and accountability in everything we do. These principles guide our approach to ethical policing, professional conduct, and community engagement, and are consistent with Ontario policing standards and legislative requirements.

Through this page, members of the public can find reports, data, and resources that explain how we operate and how we are held accountable.

This includes information related to use of force, officerinvolved incidents, crime statistics, operational and governance policies, equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), and professional standards. It also outlines how the public can raise concerns, makecomplaints, or provide feedback about police conduct and service delivery.

We recognize that transparency also means acknowledging and addressing issues that affect trust in policing. The Ottawa Police Service is committed to examining the impacts of bias and systemic racism, and to responsibly collecting and sharing racebased and identitybased data where appropriate. This information helps us better understand disparities in policing outcomes and supports informed decisionmaking, policy development, training, and continuous improvement.

Accountability is central to public confidence in policing. We are committed to clear communication, accessible information, and oversight processes that align with Ontario’s policing framework and the expectations of the communities we serve.

This transparency page reflects our ongoing effort to listen, learn, and improve—strengthening relationships with the public and ensuring the Ottawa Police Service remains responsive, professional, and accountable to the people of Ottawa.
