Recruit Spotlight: Spec. Cst. Dylan Collier
I grew up in North Gower, Ontario and lived there until I was about 16 years old before moving to Vancouver for about five years.
After that, I came back to Ottawa (Kanata), where I completed my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Mental Health at Carleton University.
I headed to Glasgow, Scotland, for a year to earn my Master’s in Forensic Science at the University of Strathclyde.
I then spent four years in Toronto working at the Centre of Forensic Sciences (CFS), the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS) in the morgue, and most recently with Toronto Police Service (TPS) as a civilian Crime Scene Support Technician.
I’ve always known I wanted to work in a science field that was hands-on—something meaningful where I could contribute in a real way.
Forensics quickly became that calling for me. So, when I saw that the Ottawa Police Service had a position like this as a Special Constable, it felt like the perfect opportunity to come home and give back to the community I grew up in.
